Quizzing in the air

Quizzing in the air and its wings wander for information.. no no no, I am not talking about the quizzing of shri 420 aka Raju of Satyam by the cops ... am talking about the 2 quizzes took place in Chennai recently


One is on the Quiz event in the Mylapore festival and another is the India unplugged quiz conducted by the Indian Quiz League.


1. Mylapore Quiz, an annual event conducted as a part of Mylapore festival sponsored by Sundaram Group of Companies and co ordinated by the Mylapore times. One of my personal favourites is the Mylapore quiz where the topic of the quiz was Mylapore to coincide with the festival. Ashwin Prabhu, the quiz master, an ardent quizzer himself conducted the quiz along with Shriniwas, supported well with the ppts and projectors. The quiz revolves around Mylapore, however, no limitation in terms of subjects. Questions touched upon dance, sculpture, festival, movies, even bus routes.. the fun filled preliminary was followed by tough finals ... tough for me though not the finalists.........:). The teams named themselves funnily, such as "Mylapore mamas", Mylapore mapilais" , etc. Finals got more connection questions and the crowd was just super glued on the screen for the questions. It was a fun filled 2 hours with lots of information and tit bits about Mylapore and it s surroundings. This time, I lost entry into finals in 1/2 marks. My quiz partner Mrs. Latha and myself made a vow to enter into the finals next time. Lets seeee.......... My expectation for the Mylapore quiz starts on the very day of it concluded this year... Guess thats the beauty of any interesting and informative extravaganza !



2. There could not be a better way of celebrating the 60th republic day of India than this !.. I am talking about the "India unplugged" quiz event conducted by the Indian Quiz League. It was interesting and it covered almost all the current topics, the Indian republic is facing now.. from sathyam to chandamama , from siachen to nagerkoil, from Rahman to a native kerala dance. It was an amazing information super highway all the way.
There were 30 questions in the preliminary and went on quite fast, reasonably though. Some of them were easy trivia like name the website of a movie which keeps changing every 15 minutes, not giving the story line, etc., We took a wild guess of "Gajini" and oolalalaaa...... its right !. Believe me it was a quiz of religious nature where there were questions about TTD and Ramakrishna Mutt, etc. The quiz master was swift enough to gauge mood of the crowd and run the show.




6 teams were qualified for the finals. The finals were a bit tough for a novice quizzer cum audience like me. There were connect questions and believe me.... it was tough.. however, those questions were also answered by the regular quiz buffs in a jiffy. Strange names here too.. One team named themselves as "Raju na raha gentleman". No dearth of imagination !
while speaking to one of the organisers, he talked about coming with more such events in the future. Let me try my hand in all that. Who knows, may be a Siddhartha Basu or Derek o Brian would have started in this small way ! ..........
