பொங்கலோ பொங்கல் ! A heartening thanks giving festival of India

Wish you all a happy Pongal! அனைவருக்கும் இனிய பொங்கல் நல்வாழ்த்துக்கள்!

With the Sun and earth, the wonderful climate of Chennai is taking a turn tomorrow towards the summer. Tamils all over the world celebrate this turn in the name of Pongal. Pongal is the born of the Tamil month "தை".

In a way its the "thanks giving festival" for the farmers, the farm lands and most importantly the farm animals. Its heartening to celebrate festival for the animals that help us in farming. As a diversified yet united country, this is being celebrated in various parts of India, Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Sankaranti in the northern India, in the form of kite festival in Gujarat, etc.

Its one of longer duration festival as it is being celebrated for three days, like பொங்கல், மாட்டுப்பொங்கல் & காணும் பொங்கல்.During Kaanum pongal, the Chennai Marina Beach will be thronged by the Chennaites. There are families who visit the Marina Beach for more than 5 generations. And it has become one of the auspicious part of the festival.

What a way to link entertainment with festival ! kudos to our ancestors and culture for these celebrations and thanks givings !

And ofcourse, Cannot forget to mention about the yummy delicacies such as sweet pongal, sugar cane, etc to accompany the festive occassion, which would delight the taste buds and linger for a long time.

This year there is an additional label added to the festival in Tamil Nadu as this is the Tamil New Year's day as officially declared by the govt.

Forget the controversies and ..................

A festival is a festival in whatever name we call it spreads good times and hopes.
So......... Lets enjoy the "தை பொங்கல்" and thank our farmers and bulls and farm lands (fast depleting though)!

Just finished eating my lunch with some surprising mouth water delicacies in my office canteen like Pongal, payasam and vadai, etc. Nothing to beat the taste! looking forward to taste more at home tomorrow.

Catch up with you soon with more posts :)
